DevComm is proud to launch Voices from the Peaks, a global storytelling initiative exploring how mountain communities experience sustainability challenges. From the Andes to the Himalayas and across Europe’s Alpine regions, this series documents real-life stories of climate change, sustainable tourism, social equity, gender roles, and local innovation.
Through field reporting, photography, and interviews during high-altitude expeditions, we reveal how remote communities understand and respond to the pressures shaping their future. Each story goes beyond the travel narrative, highlighting not only lived experiences but also the communication gaps that influence public awareness, policy responses, and cooperation between institutions.
Why mountains?
Mountains are among the first landscapes to feel the impact of climate change and among the last to be heard. They reflect the interconnected challenges of sustainable development, such as environmental degradation, economic dependency on tourism, cultural preservation, gender inequality, and fragile local governance. By listening to the people who live on the frontlines of these transformations, we can shape more effective communication strategies for sustainability.
Our approach
Each article and photo story may do one or more of the following:
amplify local voices and community solutions
provide insights for public institutions, NGOs, and companies working on sustainability
connect real-world experiences to the UN Sustainable Development Goals
offer communication lessons for policymakers and project developers
Who is this for?
This initiative will be useful for:
institutions and governments
international organisations
companies implementing environmental and social projects
public communication teams
sustainable tourism actors
Follow the journey!
Articles will be published on DevComm’s website, accompanied by photos, interviews, and insights designed to inspire more inclusive, evidence-based, and locally grounded sustainability dialogue.
